The North Olympic Library System is the place to be this summer! In addition to offering an exciting summer reading challenge, all four libraries are hosting a wide range of events for babies, kids, young adults and families. The library offers activities and programs to encourage reading – and fun -over the summer.
Research shows that kids who don’t read during the summer are more likely to succumb to the “summer slide” and lose some of the knowledge they’ve acquired during the school year. Reading five books or more during the summer months can enhance a child’s academic success in the academic year.
This summer, the library is challenging kids (ages birth to 12) to read, or be read to, for 14 hours between June 17-August 3. Kids who complete the challenge can pick out a free book. Sign-up at the library or download a program game sheet! Completed game sheets must be turned in by August 3 to be eligible for a drawing for an eReader tablet (the KoboArc). Each reader who completes the program will receive a free book (one free book per reader; unlimited entries for grand prize drawing).
Events this summer include performances by jugglers, magicians, puppeteers, rock bands, and even the opportunity to dig for fossils.
